NIEVES GURI

Nieves Guri

Nieves Guri is a visual artist and psychologist based in Mallorca. Her work explores abstraction through an intimate and thoughtful lens, in dialogue with the land and a philosophy of slow, sustainable living. Each piece emerges from a deliberate and mindful process, where carefully chosen materials and textures create a sensory experience that blurs the lines between art, craft, and reflection.

Rooted in the natural rhythms of Mallorca, this artistic process unfolds slowly and intuitively, embracing imperfection and depth. It honours uniqueness, slowness, and meticulous craftsmanship, guided by a conscious and sustainable philosophy of life. Each piece emerges from a thoughtful journey where materials and textures are carefully chosen to create a rich, sensory experience.

INK ON CANVAS

Her work incorporates techniques such as textile collage and handmade iron gall ink crafted from the native Pistacia Lentiscus, applied on cotton paper or fabric. The process unfolds across several stages, dyeing or painting the fabric, drying, cutting, composing, and assembling, each one essential to the final composition. Organic forms and traditional methods, like Mallorcan cord weaving or dry stone construction, weave a connection to the cultural and material roots of the land.
